Thank you Sassy Girl & a couple of pictures

I just want to say thanks to Sassy Girl Graphics for the new spring look. I really like it.

We just got back from OH an hour ago with 2 of the grand-girls and pray that the weather is nice for the next week so we can enjoy it with them.

Here are a couple pictures I promised to share from my last visit with the youngest DGD a few weeks ago. She is now 6 months old and just adorable.

Pray for Stellan

Please pray for Stellan and his family. They are having a very difficult time trying to get his heart beat back to normal. Please read their story as I can't do it justice. They are totally depending on God to do His will and to give the doctors the knowledge they need. I will try to put a button on the side to link to her site but if I did this right, the title to this post should also be a link.

Thanks,

Haven't been keeping up very well........

Hi all. I know I said I would be back with pictures etc a couple weeks ago but guess what??? I lied...........For some unknown reason my pictures won't download where I want them to and I haven't felt like "playing" with them to figure out why. When I do, they will be posted.

I have been pretty busy, knitting mostly. I did manage to finish one of the tablerunners that is on my list. I really want to finish at least one more this month if possible. I have also started sewing the seams on the log cabin block.

We have found a church to attend and it is fantastic. The people are very friendly and the pastor is great. Small world - the pastor used to be at a church in OH that we attended for a while and his wife was raised in the same OH city that I was!

We took today off and finally painted the bathroom! It has only been a year (or more) since I started it. ;) Anyway, it is done - not blue like was planned, but bright yellow! Now I have to buy some white paint to do the woodwork since it doesn't look very nice now. Next we get to tackle the living room but probably not till we can open the windows - it doesn't smell real nice in here right now.......

Next week we will be going to OH to pick up 2 of our DGD's for their spring break. Then we will be taking them back the following week. Pray the weather is nice so we can do something besides sit in the house while they are here.

I'm Back!

Hi everyone! I am finally back home (been gone since Feb 11th). For some reason I could not access this from my sister's computer during that time. Now that I am home, I will be updating more often......promise ;)

I have been busy knitting while visiting with my mom and got quite a few things finished. Will show some pictures tomorrow along with some new ones of our youngest granddaughter who is almost 6 mos old! I enjoyed spending time with her (& her parents :) ). It was a nice visit but after almost 3 weeks it is really good to be home.

More pictures and projects

As promised, here is the picture of the finished quilt, it fits the full size bed quite well. Now I need to get some others done which won't be easy this month as I will be spending the next few weeks in OH with my mom.

I have also been working on a few more tatting projects. The necklaces still need to be finished and some of the earrings need the hooks attached.

I have also been teaching myself to knit.....just because I don't have enough projects to do. ;-) Here are a few items I have done. This one is the first item I have actually finished! It is a 100% cotton washcloth. I plan to make up a few gift baskets and try my hand at selling them.

This one is the start of an afghan....this piece is now over 6 ft. long!!! The second section has been started. I am making 5 different pieces in 3 different colors and will then sew them together. I figure if you can sew little squares together to make one, then why not long pieces. :)

We are actually having pretty decent weather this week, so it won't be bad for driving. I will enjoy my visit with my mom and I also get the chance to watch Isabella a few times and see my grandson for his b-day while there. Here is a picture of him, since I showed the girls last time ;) This is from a few years ago, but he hasn't changed much....but he will be 16 this week!

What a week!

This has been one busy week. I did actually finish the quilt I had on the frame last time. WooHoo! 1 down, many more to go. :-)

I was not feeling well for a few days and slept most of the day away. Then we made a trip to OH to stay with some of the grandkids so they wouldn't have to miss school while their mom went out of town. Guess what? They had "snow days" the whole time we were there!!! Made it easier on us, not having to take them to school, etc. but there was quite a bit of snow. This kept Ken busy, but the rest of us were kinda stuck in the house (which is what I do best ;-) ). We finally made it back home - the roads across OH were terrible, they got a lot better about 30 miles before we got to WV border. They stayed nice and clear until we got to our house......we live on a one lane, dead-end road that has a slight hill up to our driveway and then more hill up to our garage. Have to say it....we only made it half-way up the drive before the car got stuck!!!! It took Ken about 1 - 2 hours to clear the drive enough to finally get the car in the garage. The snow wasn't that deep here, but we did have ice which doesn't mix well with cars and hills!

I will be posting pictures soon of the projects that are done. I also need to post some pictures of my beautiful granddaughters. Oh what the hey, I can post those now :)

Work has started!

Finally, I have a quilt on the frame on its way to being finished! This quilt was made with 9-patch blocks from the 1st swap I was ever in when I joined the HGTV message board (in early 2006). The alternate blocks are made with 2.5" strips I rec'd from the b-day swap in 2007. I pieced it all together in 2008 and now it is being finished in 2009!!!!! No wonder I don't get much done if everything covers 3-4 years! I did finish the quilting today and cut the strips for the binding so hopefully by the end of the week it will be completely done.

I have also been doing quite a bit of tatting while sitting in the evenings. Here are a few pieces. I think there are at 4 more that don't have pictures yet. Don't pay attention to the fabric they are sitting on.....it is stained from other projects.

The black and the pink items on the top row were going to be earrings, but I forgot to load the beads that I wanted on them.....they might end up being part of a necklace. The white items on the bottom are going to be put on my new crazy quilt block. The right-hand one is a bunny - in case you couldn't tell ;) The left-hand one in going to be snow on a mountain top, can you see it???

Lastly, here is the crazy quilt block I am working on. The red threads are just holding it together until the seams are sewn down. The "snow" above will be on the blue mountain and the bunny will be in the lower grassy area with some flowers, etc. At least that is the plan....

It has been really nasty here this past week, just as everywhere else. Cold, snow, windy, etc.....I don't like it. However, it has probably been a week since I have been outside the house and I did manage to accomplish quite a bit so maybe it isn't so bad after all.

A little progress

I have been making a little progress in the last few days. My sewing room has been straightened up some. At least my quilting frame is cleaned off and waiting for the UFO's to be loaded and quilted. The sewing table is usable and I have pieced/basted the log cabin crazy quilt wallhanging that I have been wanting to make (it will finish at around 16 x 20 inches). I have also been doing some "bluework" on the snowman quilt I started last year. It might be finished by the end of this year.

Hopefully I will have more finished project pictures to share with you soon.

A few more projects

Here I go slacking again.......I am seriously going to try to update more often....really. ;) I have been doing some more tatting, trying new patterns. This 1st one is just a medalion, about 3" across. Not sure what I will use it for yet.

This one is of 3 pair of earrings I made with beads attached. It is a little blurry and the red ones really are the same size.

I also made Madelaine a new "bag" for Christmas. She had asked for one in blue and brown with straps and pockets......this is what she got. I got the pattern from "Quilts & More" mag fall issue.

There is one large middle section and 6 outside pockets! 2 on each end and 2 between the handles.

I have also been trying to get myself/craft/sewing things organized, not much progress so far. Today I did finally remove the old wallpaper border from my bathroom walls (it has only been half done for close to a year). I also made chicken vegie noodle soup which would have been much better for us last week when we were both sick, but I didn't feel like cooking then.

If you look at the lists I have on the side bar, you will see that this year will be a busy one for me. I will be trying real hard to finish up what I can though.

Happy (late) New Year

Hi all, I know it has been a while since I was here but wanted to say "Happy New Year" anyway. 1st, we were out of state for family Christmas doings. 2nd, we brought a couple of our girls home with us for a week. 3rd, I have been feeling under the weather since Jan 2nd so have spent much of the last few days sleeping. I am now starting to feel better and hope to get back on track in the next day or two. I will then post a few pictures and a list of goals for this year.

Like my new look? Thank Sassy Girl Graphics!!!! (link on side bar)

Getting back on track

Just thought I would update since it has been a while. I have been doing very little of anything which is bad since I have a ton of stuff to get finished in the next week.
I did go shopping yesterday (in a t-shirt, no jacket) and today we have snow, freezing rain and totally nasty stuff outside (the high has been 30). I prefer yesterday when it was almost 70 degrees.
I bought a kit to teach myself how to knit. I did a few rows last night and I think it is going to be easier than learning to crochet. I will post a picture after I get something done that is big enough to see.
Today I managed to get some of the sewing done for next week. It actually felt pretty good to get something accomplished. I have really been slacking.....doing a lot of playing games and sleeping. Hopefully I am getting back on track.

Well, here is a picture of our tree this year.....I guess the "want to" did finally win out. I made the ornaments that are on it, think it could use some more. Also, I should have taken the clock down before snapping the picture. The gifts under it are all for me!!!! I did a 12 days of Christmas swap with the women on the HGTV needlework & quilting boards. Starting on Sat. we get to open 1 gift each day till Christmas. I am like a little kid, it is hard to wait.

These are the gift card holders I am making for the grandchildren that like money to do their own shopping. I used a Carol Doak pattern that she made for her yahoo group. They have an opening on the back to slip something in. I still have 3 or 4 more to make.

I don't feel like I have gotten much done these past few days, but guess I have. I also did a few more needle tatting projects. The light purple bookmark is for my mom, I am not sure who is getting the other items.

Some samples of my projects

This is a wallhanging that I just finished in time for Thanksgiving. The turkey is "stuffed" so he is 3-D.

These are some of the needle tatting projects I have been practicing on. I have done a few more that I need to take pictures of.

I haven't been doing a whole lot for the last few days. I did manage to do my Christmas shopping - will probably have to go back a few times, I usually forget something. Haven't put up a tree yet. Keep debating on whether I want to or not. The want to will probably win out in another day or so.

I still haven't put the pictures saved from my old computer on this one either, so don't have a lot to share right now. All of my "most beautiful grandchildren in the world" are with those. Guess I better make that a project for later today.

Getting Started

Ok, it is time to get started. I am not really sure what this will be about yet, but will figure it out as I go along. I learned to quilt a long time ago, but didn't have much time to enjoy it. Then about 4 years ago my husband retired, I quit working and we moved to the hills. That is when I found the time to quilt till I wilt! I have made at least one for every family member and more for some. I have learned that it is more fun to "make" the quilt then it is to finish it......there are at least 8 quilt tops in a pile waiting to be quilted and bound. There are also a dozen or more in different stages of construction, yet I still want to start more. There are just too many patterns and fabrics and not enough time in a day...........

I have a great family (most of the time) and we enjoy getting together when possible. We are hundreds of miles from each other, but do manage to visit 4-6 times per year. My husband and I have a total of 6 children and 13 grandchildren (ranging from 2 mos. to 17 years!) We just spent a couple days with some of them and will be seeing more of them at Christmas for a few more days.

I am a member of the HGTV Quilting & Needlework message board and really enjoy the friendships that have come from that as well as everything I have learned from the different people there. They helped me a lot in building my confidence in my work. I had the privilege of meeting 40 of them last March in Houston and had a fantastic time putting faces with names. I also taught myself to needle tat because of the beautiful work they were sharing.....I really like it. I have just started to teach myself how to crochet - don't you just love books? I do, you can learn anything you want from a book!

Ok, this is a start.......I will have to learn a few things about posting pictures, etc. so that I can share some of my projects with you. Will be back soon.........
