Getting back on track

Just thought I would update since it has been a while. I have been doing very little of anything which is bad since I have a ton of stuff to get finished in the next week.
I did go shopping yesterday (in a t-shirt, no jacket) and today we have snow, freezing rain and totally nasty stuff outside (the high has been 30). I prefer yesterday when it was almost 70 degrees.
I bought a kit to teach myself how to knit. I did a few rows last night and I think it is going to be easier than learning to crochet. I will post a picture after I get something done that is big enough to see.
Today I managed to get some of the sewing done for next week. It actually felt pretty good to get something accomplished. I have really been slacking.....doing a lot of playing games and sleeping. Hopefully I am getting back on track.

Well, here is a picture of our tree this year.....I guess the "want to" did finally win out. I made the ornaments that are on it, think it could use some more. Also, I should have taken the clock down before snapping the picture. The gifts under it are all for me!!!! I did a 12 days of Christmas swap with the women on the HGTV needlework & quilting boards. Starting on Sat. we get to open 1 gift each day till Christmas. I am like a little kid, it is hard to wait.

These are the gift card holders I am making for the grandchildren that like money to do their own shopping. I used a Carol Doak pattern that she made for her yahoo group. They have an opening on the back to slip something in. I still have 3 or 4 more to make.

I don't feel like I have gotten much done these past few days, but guess I have. I also did a few more needle tatting projects. The light purple bookmark is for my mom, I am not sure who is getting the other items.

Some samples of my projects

This is a wallhanging that I just finished in time for Thanksgiving. The turkey is "stuffed" so he is 3-D.

These are some of the needle tatting projects I have been practicing on. I have done a few more that I need to take pictures of.

I haven't been doing a whole lot for the last few days. I did manage to do my Christmas shopping - will probably have to go back a few times, I usually forget something. Haven't put up a tree yet. Keep debating on whether I want to or not. The want to will probably win out in another day or so.

I still haven't put the pictures saved from my old computer on this one either, so don't have a lot to share right now. All of my "most beautiful grandchildren in the world" are with those. Guess I better make that a project for later today.

Getting Started

Ok, it is time to get started. I am not really sure what this will be about yet, but will figure it out as I go along. I learned to quilt a long time ago, but didn't have much time to enjoy it. Then about 4 years ago my husband retired, I quit working and we moved to the hills. That is when I found the time to quilt till I wilt! I have made at least one for every family member and more for some. I have learned that it is more fun to "make" the quilt then it is to finish it......there are at least 8 quilt tops in a pile waiting to be quilted and bound. There are also a dozen or more in different stages of construction, yet I still want to start more. There are just too many patterns and fabrics and not enough time in a day...........

I have a great family (most of the time) and we enjoy getting together when possible. We are hundreds of miles from each other, but do manage to visit 4-6 times per year. My husband and I have a total of 6 children and 13 grandchildren (ranging from 2 mos. to 17 years!) We just spent a couple days with some of them and will be seeing more of them at Christmas for a few more days.

I am a member of the HGTV Quilting & Needlework message board and really enjoy the friendships that have come from that as well as everything I have learned from the different people there. They helped me a lot in building my confidence in my work. I had the privilege of meeting 40 of them last March in Houston and had a fantastic time putting faces with names. I also taught myself to needle tat because of the beautiful work they were sharing.....I really like it. I have just started to teach myself how to crochet - don't you just love books? I do, you can learn anything you want from a book!

Ok, this is a start.......I will have to learn a few things about posting pictures, etc. so that I can share some of my projects with you. Will be back soon.........
